The per capita gross domestic product of South Korea is expected to rise 7.6% year on year to about $39,164 in 2026, the strongest annual growth in the last five years, Yonhap News reported Sunday, citing data from local Korean analysts.

The projected per capita GDP is expected to reach $39,164 this year, up $2,750, which will be the biggest year-over-year jump since the 11.5% recorded in 2021, according to projections reported.

The estimates, based on the government's revised forecast of 12.3% nominal GDP growth, project South Korea's nominal GDP at 3,005.9 trillion won in 2026 from 2,676.7 trillion won in 2025.

Malaysia Pension Fund Pursuing Recovery of eFishery Investment After Fraud Case

Malaysia's state pension fund Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) said it invested 163.4 million ringgit in Indonesian agritech startup eFishery for a 2.51% minority stake and is pursuing "all available avenues to maximize recovery of the investment."The statement followed a Bloomberg report that Malaysia's anti-graft agency had launched an investigation into losses linked to KWAP's investment in eFishery.KWAP said the losses stemmed from deliberate financial manipulation at eFishery. The fund noted that co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer Gibran Huzaifah was sentenced to nine years in prison in April for embezzlement and money laundering.The pension fund said it has completed an internal review of the investment and strengthened its private market investment process and portfolio monitoring after the irregularities were uncovered.
