South Korea will develop a combined-cycle gas power plant in Texas as its first US investment as part of a $350 billion investment commitment, and it is also considering investing in two nuclear reactors, media outlets reported Tuesday.
The US government investment committee has to approve the investment plans, while further negotiations with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick are necessary, Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan told Reuters.
South Korea, however, will not proceed with the investments if the annual value exceeds $20 billion, The Chosun Daily reported.
South Korea is also negotiating to acquire a 5% to 10% stake in US nuclear power company Westinghouse, according to the report, to expand cooperation in nuclear energy while considering the resolution of intellectual property issues.
The industry ministry in Seoul did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
