South Korea is preparing to potentially send a naval support ship and soldiers to the Strait of Hormuz after US President Donald Trump put pressure on its ally, Bloomberg reported on Friday based on local media reports.

The government in South Korea told Washington it was prepared to send a naval ship and maritime patrol aircraft and that it would also seek parliamentary backing for this, the article said, citing the Chosun Ilbo newspaper.

However, the presidential office in South Korea said talk of an imminent Hormuz troop deployment was inaccurate and that no firm decisions have been made while the government consults with international partners. Seoul had informed Washington last month of its willingness to dispatch a naval ship.

Trump last month told the Pentagon to reduce the extent of joint US-Korean military drills over lack of support from Korea in the Iran war, Bloomberg said.

The data analytics platform said that 119 vessels are waiting to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.Meanwhile, the UKMTO said there were no confirmed attacks or disruptions in the southern Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb during the period.Commercial traffic remained below normal levels, consistent with the pattern established after the July 20 Houthi declaration of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia and earlier confirmed attacks on vessels in the region.Elsewhere, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority updated its list of non-compliant vessels, adding a further 11 ships to its blacklist on Thursday.
