Market Chatter: South Korea Chooses Texas Power Plant Project as First US Investment Project

By

South Korea decided to pursue a natural gas-fired power plant in Texas as the first project under its $350 billion U.S. investment pledge, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a lawmaker.

Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan reported the decision to the National Assembly during a closed-door briefing on Tuesday, the report said.

Lawmaker Chung Chin-ook confirmed the plan on the sidelines of the meeting, adding that two other projects are up for consideration, Reuters reported.

Seoul made the investment pledge with the U.S. in November 2025 in exchange for lower tariffs on Korean goods.
