Sony's (TYO:6758) affiliate, Sony Music, and Warner Music sued Anthropic in California federal court, accusing it of using copyrighted song lyrics and sheet music from artists, Reuters News reported on Monday, citing a court case file.
The lawsuit adds to a growing wave of copyright cases against tech companies over AI training data, with Universal Music having filed similar suits against Anthropic in 2023 and earlier this year, the news wire said.
Anthropic settled a separate author class action last year for $1.5 billion, marking the first such AI copyright settlement, the publication said.
Sony, Warner Music and Anthropic did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
