Market Chatter: SK Group's Ulsan AI Data Center Close to 900-Megawatt Capacity Expansion

SK Group's planned Ulsan AI data center is closing in on a 900 megawatt capacity expansion, The Korea Times reported Sunday, citing Chairman Chey Tae-won.

The company is fast advancing discussions with global technology companies as it looks to transform the city into a manufacturing AI hub, the report cited Tae-won's statement in a forum.

The AI data center, a partnership between the company's telecom subsidiary SK Telecom (KRX:017670) and Amazon Web Services, plans to start operations in the second half of 2027, the report said.

The company expanded the planned capacity for the site to 1 gigawatt from 100 megawatts originally and also looks to develop capacity exceeding 2 gigawatts for the South and North Gyeongsang provinces, the report said.

Market Chatter: Korea Exchange to Extend Trading Hours till 8PM

South Korea's main stock market, the Korea Exchange, will enable trading till 8 pm following the regular close at 3:30 pm from Monday, in its move toward 24-hour trading, Bloomberg News reported Sunday.This decision opens 2,400 Korea Composite Stock Price Index, or Kospi, and Kosdaq stocks for evening trades, which include short-selling.
