Singapore Airlines (SGX:C6L) is in negotiations with Airbus and Boeing to purchase at least 50 large wide-body jets, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing two industry sources.
The airline company is seeking offers for either a Boeing 777X model or an Airbus A350-1000, with negotiations still at an early stage, the report said.
This comes after the company had outlined its intention to continue expanding its capacity, despite competitors pulling back, the report added.
The new orders are expected to help the company in the next phase of its growth, the report said.
Singapore Airlines was cited in the report as saying that fleet renewal is being reviewed regularly, but refused to comment on "any confidential discussions that we may or may not be having." Meanwhile, both Boeing and Airbus declined to comment, Reuters said.
