Sanrio (TYO: 8136) plans to increase its proportion of long-term retail shareholders from under one-third to a majority using social media and shareholder meetings, according to managing executive officer Seiichiro Matsumoto.
The Hello Kitty brand owner's shareholder base tripled year over year to about 250,000 as of March 2026, the report said.
Under its medium-term plan, the company targets over 50 billion yen in mergers, acquisitions and minority investments to reach a 5 trillion yen market capitalization by fiscal 2035, while noting it may return up to 30 billion yen to shareholders if deals do not materialize.
Shares of the company fell nearly 2% in recent trade.
