Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) is in discussions with France-based AI startup Mistral regarding a potential 1 billion euro investment, Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The investment is a portion of a wider fundraising round that could put the group's valuation at about 20 billion euros, part of its efforts to secure deals with semiconductor producers amid a supply crunch and become a main alternative to US AI models, the report cited the people as saying.
Scaleup Europe Fund, owned by Sweden-based EQT, is also in talks with Mistral for the fundraising rounds, the report cited the people as saying.
Samsung, Mistral, and EQT did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
