Russia is mulling the import of fuel to tackle of both gasoline and diesel and offering subsidies on them to counter rising prices resulting from Ukrainian strikes on its refineries, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing Russian newspaper Vedomosti.
The options were discussed at a meeting on fuel supplies led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on Monday.
Russia's gasoline output dropped last week to about 90,000 metric tons or 765,000 barrels per day, a 25% decline when compared with daily average production levels in June last year, the report said.
Ukraine had struck the Kapotnya refinery that supplies a portion of Moscow's fuel needs twice last week, causing a blaze on each occasion.
