Romania's Energy Ministry proposed three offshore wind farms totaling 3.1 gigawatts in the Black Sea, with the three sites up for concession, Mediafax reported Thursday, citing documents.
The three sites include one 1,900-megawatt unit and two 600-megawatt units. Wind power helped offset the Cernavoda nuclear shutdown, after its first 700 MW reactor went offline Aug. 1 as low Danube flows cut hydroelectric output by half and pushed Romania into an energy alert.
Romania's Ministry of Energy targets 3 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035 under the Romanian Energy Strategy 2025-2035.
The Romanian Ministry of Energy did not immediately reply to' request for comment.
