Market Chatter: Qantas Airways Looks to Prevent Planned Strike by Ground Services Crew

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) will seek the Australian Fair Work Commission's help on Friday to prevent a Transport Workers Union strike planned for the school holidays of Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, The Australian reported Friday.

More than 600 workers who provide ground services for Qantas freight and QantasLink flights plan to walk off the job for 24 hours in Victoria on Sept. 23, and across other parts of the country the next day, after negotiations over pay and job security soured, according to the report.

"We remain committed to reaching an agreement with our Qantas Ground Services employees that includes annual pay rises for our people," a Qantas spokesperson told, adding that the company has contingency plans in place to minimize any strike impact.
