OpenAI's head of data centers Chris Malone left the company last week as the AI firm prepares for a potential IPO and expands its computing capacity, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Malone joined OpenAI in March 2025 after the company announced Stargate, its data-center initiative with Oracle and SoftBank. OpenAI has since shifted toward cloud-provider deals while reviving some internal data-center efforts through leased facilities, WSJ said.
His departure follows recent exits by Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser, Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap and Fidji Simo, according to the report.
OpenAI is also increasing its projected computing spending to about $750 billion through 2030, WSJ reported.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
