Market Chatter: Oman Opposes Strait of Hormuz Transit Fees

Oman has informed the International Maritime Organization that it is not in favor of imposing a transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

In a meeting with the United Nations' shipping agency, Oman said that it is committed to international law that guarantees the right of transit through international straits and opposes the charging of transit fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The sultanate's stance aligns with the views of the shipping industry, major non-Iranian oil producers in the Middle East, and Western countries, but could put it at odds with Iran, which aims to collect navigation fees from passing cargo vessels, the report said.

Oman further added that it approves of the exploration of voluntary navigation support measures that could improve maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.has reached out to Oman's Foreign Ministry and the IMO for comments.
