The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, controlled by the Russian state-owned Gazprom, is suing the European Union in the bloc's second-highest court, in its bid to annul the phase-out of gas imports from Russia.
Referring to the EU law aimed at halting all Russian gas imports into Europe by late 2027, which was approved by the EU, the company argued that it was a sanction-like measure requiring the approval of all EU member states, adding that the regulation was thus "null and void."
This decision was taken by the bloc in order to sever its ties with Moscow, which, up until its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, was the largest supplier of gas for the region.
Gazprom did not immediately respond to' request for a comment on this story.
