Nitori (TYO:9843) plans to open more small stores in mainland China, focusing on kitchenware and other household items that are less exposed to the country's property market downturn, Nikkei reported Friday, citing company President Toshiyuki Shirai.
The Japanese furniture retailer currently operates 77 stores on the Chinese mainland, down from more than 100 earlier, the report said.
The company plans to focus on offerings including kitchenware, fitness equipment, and home fragrances and not big furniture pieces.
