Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) is facing a potential rival bid from Amazon's Prime Video for streaming rights to National Rugby League (NRL) matches, with Amazon in talks with NRL to carry one night of coverage and up to two games per week, the Australian Financial Review reported Thursday, citing two unnamed people close to the discussions.
Foxtel, another rival bidder of Nine, has offered between AU$550 million and AU$590 million annually under a seven-year deal, while Nine, which is also the publisher of AFR, offered between AU$520 million and AU$550 million a year for rights to broadcast games on its television network and Stan, the report added.
Nine, Amazon, and Foxtel did not immediately respond to' requests for comment.
