Market Chatter: Micron Technology Workers Back Strike Over Profit-Sharing Demands

By

A potential strike by Micron Technology workers in Taiwan could disrupt the US memory-chip maker's largest manufacturing base, as unions push for a bigger share of record profits, Reuters reported Tuesday.

Unions in Taoyuan and Taichung said they have nearly 10,000 members and that over 80% of those surveyed supported strike action. They are demanding an additional bonus for fiscal 2026 and a new profit-sharing scheme from fiscal 2027 that will direct 15% of operating profit to employees, according to the report.

The unions argue Micron Technology's current incentive plan does not adequately reflect the company's profitability and leaves workers behind their counterparts. The dispute arose after the company posted record fiscal third-quarter revenue of $41.5 billion and net income of $28.2 billion, driven by strong AI-related memory demand, the news agency said.

Micron Technology did not immediately respond to' request for a comment.
