Merck (MRK) said Thursday it will pay over $50 million to settle more than 200 lawsuits that blame the drugmaker's Gardasil cancer vaccine for causing autoimmune ailments in young women, Bloomberg reported, citing an emailed statement from the company.
Gardasil prevents human papillomavirus infections. The lawsuits allege it can cause autoimmune conditions affecting the heart and reproductive systems in young women, according to the report.
Merck didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from.
