LG Electronics (KRX:066570) deployed the first R16-based 5G smart telematics system in a mass-produced vehicle in Europe, applying the technology to a European automaker's production model, The Korea Times reported Wednesday.
The R16-based smart telematics system offers a 0.001% data error rate and one-millisecond transmission latency, improving reliability and speed over the previous R15 standard. It supports software- and AI-defined vehicles, including over-the-air updates, vehicle-to-everything communications, and high-volume data transmission for autonomous driving systems, the report said.
The system brings together a communications module with up to 12 antennas in a single hardware unit, lowering signal loss, wiring, and installation requirements, it said.
Shares of LG Electronics fell over 3% at market close.
