LG Display (KRX:034220) will invest 3 trillion won in next-generation small and medium-sized organic light-emitting diode technology to maintain its technological advantage amid growing competition from China, Pulse News reported Monday, citing industry sources.
According to the report, the investments include a 1.3 trillion-won low-interest loan from South Korea's National Growth Fund, 1.5 trillion won in its own capital, and 200 billion won through a syndicated loan.
The funding is expected to be used to upgrade manufacturing processes and technologies for OLED panels rather than expanding production capacity, the report added.
LG Display and the South Korean government did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.
