Market Chatter: Japanese Firms' H1 Euroyen Convertible Bond Issuance in H1 2026 Hits Highest Since 2004

By

Japanese companies issued $6.8 billion in euroyen convertible bonds in the first six months of 2026, marking the highest level since $11 billion was recorded in 2004, as investors sought low-risk investments, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday, citing U.K. data provider LSEG.

Investment in convertible bonds is aimed at providing asset protection during downturns while maintaining exposure to stocks, the report said said.

Rising share prices and borrowing costs have revived demand for convertible bonds, as they allow companies to raise funds more cheaply in a higher interest rate environment, the report said.
