Japan and the United States will jointly invest $1 billion over five years in artificial intelligence and other advanced fields under the Trump administration's Genesis Mission, Nikkei Asia reported Monday.

Under the agreement, Japan will contribute $500 million to collaborate on priority areas including biotechnology, nuclear fusion, and quantum information science, while senior Japanese officials plan to visit the US in early June for a joint announcement with the Department of Energy, the newswire said.

Major tech companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Nvidia, will also participate by supplying advanced AI models and expanding supercomputing capacity, the report added.
