Japan is establishing new dialogue frameworks with France and India to advance AI development and reduce dependence on American and Chinese technologies, Nikkei Asia reported on Tuesday.

The first Japan-France high-level AI talks occurred Friday, focusing on "AI sovereignty" and independent data management, with defense officials also discussing AI's role in national security, the news agency said.

Both nations emphasize building supply chains free from US-China dominance, aiming to finalize concrete collaborative measures through ongoing discussions, the publication said.

Japanese companies including SoftBank Group (TYO:9984) and Sakana AI participated alongside their French counterparts, showcasing domestic AI capabilities as part of the strategic partnership, the report said.

Japan and French government officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.
