India wants tariff terms from the U.S. that provide an edge over competing countries before signing the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), Indian news agency ANI reported on Saturday, citing Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.
The minister said the framework for the agreement has already been settled, but outstanding tariff issues still need to be resolved, according to the report.
Goyal said India is seeking lower duties than those of rival countries, calling the matter the key issue pending before the agreement can take effect.
