Indian authorities raided a warehouse near Mumbai, accused of altering expiry dates and nutritional information on food products made by PepsiCo, Nestle, Coca-Cola and Unilever for export, Reuters reported Tuesday.
Food safety officials seized goods worth nearly $80,000 during a six-day investigation and found chemicals used to remove original labels, along with equipment to print replacement labels and packs, according to the report.
Most of the products were expired or close to expiry, officials said, and it was unclear which countries the goods were destined for, the report said.
Nestle, Hindustan Unilever, and Coca-Cola and PepsiCo did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
