Market Chatter: India Plans to Table Bill to Make Foreign Investor Tax Cuts Permanent

By

India's government is expected to introduce a bill in Parliament as early as next week to formalize tax concessions for foreign investors in sovereign bonds, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The proposed Income Tax Amendment Bill would replace an ordinance issued in June and requires only a simple majority in Parliament to become law.

If the bill is not passed this session, the government can reissue the ordinance to keep the tax relief in force for another six months, Reuters said.

A Finance Ministry spokesperson did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
