India curtailed 8,133 gigawatt hours (GWh) of solar power during the quarter ended June 30 as transmission constraints and grid security requirements limited the absorption of renewable energy, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Yesso Naik.
Solar power curtailment totaled 2,417 GWh in April, 3,235 GWh in May and 2,481 GWh in June, Naik told the Indian Parliament in a written reply, according to the report.
The government attributed the curtailment to delays in transmission infrastructure, early commissioning of renewable energy projects and measures to maintain grid stability. It said restrictions on solar generation were necessary to ensure the reliable and secure operation of the power grid.
