Workers at Hyundai Motor (KRX:005380) in South Korea voted to strike over the automaker's plan to introduce humanoid robots in its factories, Financial Times reported Wednesday.
The Hyundai unit of the Korean Metal Workers' Union said 87% of nearly 40,000 members voted in favor of industrial action, raising tensions over Hyundai Motor's automation plans, the report said.
The union seeks to be involved in decisions on AI and automation after the automaker said it plans to deploy Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robots at its U.S. manufacturing operations, according to the report.
Hyundai Motor did not immediately reply to' request for comment.
Shares of the automaker fell nearly 1% in recent trade.
