Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKG:0388) is eyeing an extension of stock trading hours, alongside cancelling its one-hour lunch break, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter.
The move comes in order to conform to international market standards, according to the report.
The exchange has shared its plans with major brokers and trading companies recently, the people said.
Possible changes include beginning trading at 9 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the current starting time, and scrapping the hour-long lunch break.
A session after hours is also under consideration for major stocks to align with early US trading, Bloomberg said citing the people. The evening session, if it materializes, is expected to run from 8 p.m. to midnight.
HKEX did not immediately respond to' request for a comment.
