Commodities trader Gunvor is in discussions about buying US natural gas assets from Silver Hill Energy Partners, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing sources, an acquisition that would advance Gunvor's plans for a vertically integrated shale gas production and marketing business.
The article, based on four anonymous sources not authorized to speak about the negotiations, said the purchase price for the Silver Hill assets that stretch across the Haynesville shale basin in Texas and Louisiana, would be between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion, two of the sources said.
Under Gunvor ownership, oil and gas producer Western Natural, based in Oklahoma, would operate the assets, the sources told Reuters.
The acquisition would add to others Gunvor has made since 2024, reflecting expectations of a surge in power demand to supply AI data centers and new export terminals on the US Gulf Coast, the article said.
The sources said the talks were at an early stage with no certainty any deal would go ahead.
Neither Gunvor nor Silver Hill responded to Reuters' request for comment while Western Natural could not be reached.has reached out to Gunvor and Silver Hill to request confirmation of the talks.
