Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis revealed a subsidy for heating oil and an increase in the country's heating allowance during a televised interview on ERTNews on Thursday, the broadcaster said.
The subsidy will ensure that heating oil prices are kept below 1.75 euros per liter ($2.01)
The government could reduce the Special Consumption Tax temporarily, to control the prices consumers pay, as Europe heads into autumn then winter, with US-Iran war enduring and keeping energy prices high with the logistics of getting oil out of the Middle East growing only more complex.
Mitsotakis said the specific announcements would be made next week by the relevant ministries. The broadcaster said he appeared relaxed about energy sufficiency and had emphasized that there was no risk of a shortage of fuel.
He said that Greece is somewhat shielded in terms of public debt with lower borrowing costs now than some other EU countries.
The Greek Finance Ministry did not immediately reply to' request for comment.
