State-owned Ghana Gas is expected to make a final investment decision on a 278-kilometer West-East onshore pipeline in Q1 2027 as the company tries to line up financing for the $500-million project, Chief Executive Judith Adjobah Blay told Reuters in an interview Wednesday.
The project, which has been under discussion for almost a decade, will transport gas from a processing plant in the western part of the country to meet industrial demand in the southeast. This will reduce reliance on the West African pipeline shared by neighboring countries, Blay reportedly said on the sidelines of the Gastech conference in Thailand.
Meanwhile, a proposal for a gas processing plant was also put forward, subject to lawmaker approval, to process 50 million standard cubic feet per day of excess gas from the Jubilee and Ten oil fields. The government intends to take a 30% stake in the plant, Reuters quoted Blay as saying.
By 2030, Ghana is projected to consume 715 mmscf/d of gas, up from this year's 502 mmscf/d, the report said. It is currently importing 70 mmscf/d of lean gas from Nigeria.
