Germany's government agreed on measures to curb the impact of record fuel prices, including a tax reduction and a ceiling on retail pump prices, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the talks.
The tax measure would cut pump-related charges by about 17 euro cents ($0.19) per liter, while the proposed ceiling would adjust with oil prices, following models used in Belgium and Luxembourg.
The coalition has settled on a funding approach for the package, but officials still need to work out the details with Germany's 16 states and fit the expense into this year's budget. Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy did not immediately reply to' request for comment.
