Market Chatter: Geely Unit Lotus Eyes US Production of New Hybrid SUV Amid Tariff Impact

Geely Automobile Holdings (HKG:0175) unit Lotus Technology is exploring the production of Eletre X, its new plug-in hybrid SUV, in the U.S. following detrimental effects of U.S. tariffs on sales, Nikkei Asia reported Friday.

The new SUV will allow the automotive company to target buyers who don't want to switch solely to EV technology, Nikkei Asia said, citing Lotus' Chief financial officer Daxue Wang.

Eletre X is currently available in China and will be launched in Europe in the fourth quarter, with no release date announced for the U.S. yet.

British sportscar maker Lotus' international deliveries had slipped 46% to 6,520 vehicles in 2025 amid the tariffs.

Geely Automobile and Lotus did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.

Zhongguancun Science-Tech Leasing (HKG:1601) said it entered into two sale and leaseback agreements with Shandong Xuguo Energy, according to a Hong Kong bourse filing Thursday.In both deals, the company will separately acquire power generation facilities for 45 million yuan and lease them back to Shandong Xuguo Energy for 47 million yuan.The lease agreements will last for a year.
