A fire was bought under control at the Antonio Dovali Jaime refinery, owned by Mexico's national oil company Petroleos Mexicanos or Pemex, in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca on Sunday night, Mexican newspaper El Sol De Mexico reported on Monday.
No injuries were reported in the fire at the refinery's alkylation unit but the incident triggered emergency protocols, the report said.
Initial reports indicated the possibility of hydrofluoric acid leak, with company officials noting that technical personnel immediately responded to the situation, the report said.
Further investigations are under way to determine the cause of the incident and its potential impact on refinery operations.
This is the third incident at the refinery in recent times and comes after a May 11 explosion in a cooling tower of the facility's refining complex in which one person was killed. The refinery also reported a brief fire incident on May 16, Reuters reported.
