Exxon Mobil (XOM) is in talks to acquire rights to produce oil in Venezuela, the New York Times reported Thursday, citing several people familiar with the matter.
The deal may be finalized and made public as soon as this month with Exxon signing contracts to produce in as many as six fields across several regions, the report said.
It remains unclear if the initial accord would include binding obligations or only represent the company's expression of interest, the report said.
Exxon Mobil did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.
