China Evergrande founder Hui Ka Yan's lawyer's request to use liquidator-controlled funds to pay legal costs was rejected by the Hong Kong High Court, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The relevant legal costs reached HK$1.2 million, according to the report.

Last week, Hui was reportedly given a life sentence by a Chinese court, alongside an order to confiscate his personal property.
