Market Chatter: Chugai Pharma to Boost Capex by 50% to Expand In-House Production

Chugai Pharmaceutical (TYO:4519) plans to invest around 100 billion yen annually in facilities and equipment by 2028 to reduce outsourcing and expand in-house production, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday.

The new capital spending target represents an about 50% increase from the 68 billion yen planned for 2026, marking an all-time high for the Roche subsidiary, the report said.

The company plans to upgrade its Ukima plant in Tokyo by next year to triple its biopharmaceutical and investigational drug capacity, followed by an 80 billion yen investment in 2028 to establish a research facility focused on manufacturing processes, the report said.

Chugai Pharmaceutical did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
