Chery Automobile (HKG:9973) is gearing up for the launch of a compact electric vehicle in Japan under a newly launched brand called EMTA, Nikkei Asia reported Thursday.
The brand, a joint venture between Chery and four other businesses, plans to debut four electric models in Japan by 2029, including one that could come next spring.
The so-called kei car will be developed in China and Japan, with production initially taking place in China, the report said.
