Alberta is negotiating with Japan to increase heavy crude shipments and diversify the nation's energy sources away from the Middle East, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing Minister Brian Jean in a recent interview.
The province has offered financial backing for a coker unit to process oil sands crude and is exploring blending options to suit Japanese refiners, the newswire said.
Jean emphasized listening to customer needs after holding talks in Tokyo last week, the publication said.
