Air India is in talks with owners Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SGX:C6L) to raise about $1.5 billion in fresh equity, Reuters reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The airline is urgently seeking funds, although the investment could be made in stages, according to the report.
Singapore Airlines would have to participate in the proposed equity infusion in proportion to its shareholding for it to proceed, Reuters said.
Talks remain ongoing, and no final decision has been made, the report added.
Air India, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
