Malaysian shares ended in the red on Wednesday, mirroring a downbeat regional performance due to rising oil prices and higher US yields.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, shed 2.04 points to end 0.1% lower at 1,731.32.
Malaysia's vehicle sales rose 5% annually to 73,615 units in July, from 70,057, driven by higher passenger vehicle sales, according to data from the Malaysian Automotive Association. Passenger vehicle sales increased 7% from a year earlier to 68,900 units, while commercial vehicle sales fell 16% to 4,715 units, the data showed.
In corporate news, GTA (KLSE:GTA) seeks to raise 71.8 million ringgit via an initial public offering on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia. The aviation services provider's IPO comprises a public issue of 205 million new shares at an issue price of 0.35 ringgit per share, as well as an offer for sale of 124 million existing shares.
PETRONAS Chemicals Group (KLSE:PCHEM) swung to a profit of 414 million ringgit in the second quarter of 2026 from a loss of 1.08 billion ringgit a year ago. Basic earnings per share in the three months came in at 0.05 ringgit compared with a loss per share of 0.0014 ringgit a year earlier. Shares ended flat today.
