Kioxia (TYO:285A) and SanDisk plan to invest more than $31 billion in Japan through 2032, subject to government support, according to a joint statement on Thursday.
The investment will support infrastructure expansion at the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants, aiming to meet growing demand for their flash memory technology.
The partnership, which has already invested over $50 billion in Japan over the past 25 years, will leverage AI-enabled smart manufacturing to ensure stable production of advanced 3D flash memory technology.
Sandisk CEO David Goeckeler called the investment a prime example of U.S.-Japan economic collaboration, while Kioxia President Hiroo Ota said continued government support is important for the group's global competitiveness.
