China National Offshore Oil said Wednesday the first phase of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield in the south Bohai Sea has begun full production, exceeding 2,800 tons per day.
The company, known as Cnooc, completed relevant operations on all 79 development wells, with pump startup activities conducted for both cold and hot production wells. The first round of heat injection on 24 thermal recovery wells was also completed, according to the statement.
Kenli 10-2 oilfield is a "branching heavy oil reservoir," requiring new development methods as oil and gas are stored in "narrow, long, and winding sand bodies," the company noted.
"The full commissioning of the first phase of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield project provides a technical solution that can be learned from, replicated and promoted for the effective development of similar oil reservoirs," it said, boosting production at the Bohai Sea oilfield, which contains over 100 million tons of reserves.
