The Kansai Electric's (TYO:9503) Mihama Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 was manually shut down after water leak was detected, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Friday.
The leak was found around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 17, during output increase following the unit's 29th refuel outage.
Although the condition posed no immediate threat to plant operation, the affected section could not be isolated, so the company decided at 5:45 p.m. to shut down the reactor for inspection, beginning load reduction at 8:30 p.m.
No radiological impact on the surrounding environment occurred, and the company will provide further information should any matters requiring disclosure arise.
