Japanese stocks gained ahead of US job data as investor sentiment improved and fears of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike eased.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed up 806.46 points, or 1.26%, at 65,020.94.
Oil prices extended gains even as US-Iran peace talks to end the Middle East conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz progressed.
On the corporate side, Sumitomo (TYO:8053) completed its 80 billion yen share buyback, repurchasing 47.7 million common shares, according to a Tokyo Bourse filing on Friday.
Also, NEC (TYO:6701), SB Payment Service and SB C&S have entered a partnership on facial recognition payment for the PayCas multi-payment service, according to a Friday release.
