Japanese shares opened lower on Friday, pressured by a slump in U.S. tech stocks and fresh domestic inflation data that reignites expectations for further Bank of Japan tightening.
The Nikkei 225 fell 1.2%, shedding over 838 points or 1.3% to start the session at 65,584.25.
At home, core CPI excluding fresh food edged up 1.6% year-on-year in June, marking its first acceleration in three months and reinforcing the central bank's tightening bias.
Meanwhile, Brent crude held above $100 amid heightened U.S.-Iran tensions following attacks on Saudi tankers, while Washington unveiled new tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on key trading partners.
