Japanese shares closed higher on Tuesday following a rally in technology stocks after months of volatility in semiconductor shares, as investors remain cautious about the impact of strong US corporate earnings on AI stocks and technology investments.
Benchmark Nikkei 225 closed up 202.63 points, or 0.32%, at 63,957.53.
Oil prices advanced after fresh attacks in the Strait of Hormuz raised questions over the temporary US-Iran truce announced on Monday, escalating tensions in the Middle East.
On the corporate side, Toyota Motor (TYO:7203) posted a 76% year-over-year jump in attributable net income for the fiscal first quarter to 1.477 trillion yen from 841.3 billion yen, according to a Tokyo Stock Exchange filing on Tuesday.
Also, Yamaha Motor (TYO:7272) posted an 114.7% year-over-year increase in profit attributable to owners of the parent to 113.90 billion yen for the six months ended June 30 from 53.06 billion yen.
