The Nikkei 225 slipped 251.9 points or 0.4% to 65,604.49 at the start of the session.

Elsewhere, attention turns to Nvidia's forthcoming earnings release, while traders gear up for Friday's Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, where Fed Chair Warsh is set to deliver his inaugural policy address.

The speech is expected to offer fresh insights into the central bank chief's economic outlook and the likely direction of interest rates.
